Have you had a chance to read the latest edition of Seaside Magazine? This is the "Men to Watch" edition and I was pretty excited to work with them as part of a story about the new Sidney Public Safety Building.  

Sidney Fire Department has been one of my favourite clients for a few years now and when Chief Mikkelsen approached me to photograph the new building I was thrilled. Like most locals, I had been driving by this new building daily watching it progress and was fascinated to see what was inside. I served in Emergency Services in my previous career for nearly 25 years so I can really appreciate the benefits of a well planned and built facility for first responders.  

In what appears to be a trend in my photography of Sidney Fire Department, there was an element of shooting from some place up much higher than my "fear of heights" brain likes. This time it was 'only' a 10 foot ladder (much lower than my usual bucket truck ride) and, as always, I knew I was in good hands if I slipped!

Seaside Magazine's Sue Hodgson was there and we created some great photographs together. Sue's vision of the the image of the firefighters sitting on the ladder truck came together beautifully and was my favourite. 

The BC Ambulance Service's new facility is part of this building. I had the pleasure of meeting several of their paramedics and the Unit Chief Brigham Smith. Turns out - Brigham and I both served together at the same time on the North Shore of Vancouver many (too many) years ago. Such a small world.
