How is everyone doing? These are difficult times for us all but we will get through it together.
As we stay home to flatten the curve and reduce the spread of COVID-19, we often lose those unspoken connections we share with others. However, by staying at home with our families we are helping others - especially those in the front line. #healthcareheroes.
Thank you to New England photographer Cara Soulia for starting this project. The Front Steps Project will be wrapping up this week, bringing all proceeds to the Saanich Peninsula Food Bank. Jo-Ann from Nuttycake Photography, Tracey from Tracey Scott Photography and I photographed almost 40 families in one day. Each photograph taken from a minimum of 10 feet away.
The Front Steps Project photos were not fancy formal portraits but historic recordings of how families came together in strength; staying at home to keep others safe, especially for our front line healthcare heroes and first responders.
Many were neighbours, some were friends but now we are all interconnected - together strong.
Before we came to each home we asked families if they were willing to share in the photos what is helping them through this time.
We photographed some during their adult family "happy hour", others were clinking Coronas, some danced and little one's twirled. Others were working the garden while I captured the Peninsula's greatest baker with her mixmaster. One was a Critical Care nurse on a rare day off. Some were staying home to care for others. Everyone had a common purpose to stay home to keep others safe. My heart is full.
Stay well everyone and thank you for the opportunity to capture and share these moments.
Virtual hugs
Janis
